There are a couple of farmstays located in the Swan Valley only a 1/2 hour drive from Perth: The River Retreat http://www.theriverretreat.com.au/ and Settlers Rest Farmstay http://www.settlersrest.com.au/ and a little further north in the Chittering Valley about 1 hour drive from Perth: Orchard Glory Farm Resort http://www.orchardglory.com.au/ and Bindoon's Windmill Farm http://www.ausbusiness.net/windmill/. These are all within relatively short driving distance from Perth city and Fremantle so if you choose you could stay at the farmstay for the duration of your trip but as mentioned above a hire car would be a necessity.
